• Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2007 Cadillac XLR?

  A: Start replacement of the vacuum Brake Booster by disconnecting the battery's negative terminal. Detach the coolant surge tank and electricity power cable that connects to the Brake Fluid Level Sensor. Remove the master cylinder nuts first but keep the brake pipes connected. Afterward replace the master cylinder in position outside the Brake Booster system. Remove the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose piped to the booster check valve before taking out the instrument panel lower trim. First remove each component of the brake pedal including the booster pushrod, pedal pin, washer, and retainer. Then take off booster mounting nuts and washers from their studs before pulling it away from the cowl using push-on nuts. To disconnect the booster from the cowl push the mounting studs through push-on nuts when moving it side to side. Take the booster off by pulling it straight out. Look at the Brake Booster seal and its surfaces to check for damage and replace it when needed before taking off the cowl components. Secure the Brake Booster at the dash front position by installing both nut and washer on each of its mounting studs while tightening them to 27 n.m (19 lb ft). Dress the Brake Booster pushrod and brake pedal components onto the pedal body before locking the retainer by turning it. Install the instrument panel lower trim and attach the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose to its check valve. Then place the master cylinder at its booster position. Fasten the master cylinder to its mounting nuts until they reach 29 n.m (21 lb ft) torque and join the Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connector. Reinstall the coolant surge tank and reattach the battery negative cable afterward. Finally, program the transmitters.
