Cadillac XLR Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front disc brake pads on Cadillac XLR?
    A:
Begin the front disc Brake Pad replacement process by checking brake master cylinder fluid levels; drain the fluid when the level stands above the defined midpoint between limits. Lift the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel unit for replacement. Keep the rotor attached to hub by turning the wheel lug nut by hand. Place a c-clamp over the brake caliper and push both ends against the back of the caliper body while securing an old Brake Pad or wooden block on top of the caliper pistons. Tighten the clamp until the pistons can move past the brake rotor. Use mechanic wire to support the brake caliper after you remove both items - the c-clamp and upper brake caliper guide pin bolt. Keep the flexible brake hose safe from damage. After securing the caliper upside down with no hose tension remove brake pads to inspect Brake Pad holders. Look for damage on the caliper slide boots and replace them when needed. Put back the big c-clamp to push the brake caliper pistons fully compressed before taking it and the worn Brake Pad when done. Fit the Brake Pad retainers to their slots and place new brake pads onto them with the wear sensor correctly lined up. Straighten the brake caliper back into its bracket and screw the upper guide pin bolt at 31 nm (23 lb ft). Put back the tire and wheel components then lower the vehicle. When the engine is off push and release the brake pedal to 2/3 its travel slowly. Continuously pump the brake pedal until it feels strong then top up the master cylinder with brake fluid to the proper mark while braking the wheels.
  • Q: How to replace the rear disc brake pads on Cadillac XLR?
    A:
First, check the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir; if the level is halfway between the higher and lower points, there is no need to remove any. Lift and support the vehicle, then pull off the tire and wheel assembly. Use the hand lug nut in order to tighten it up and to keep the rotor to a hub in the locking position. Place a large c-clamp over the brake caliper, with the tips against the rear of the caliper body and an old inboard Brake Pad or a block of wood against the caliper piston, then apply a firm force on it till the piston moves past the rotor of the brake. Take the c-clamp off, take brake caliper guide pin bolts off, while being careful not to hurt the hydraulic brake hose, support the caliper with heavy mechanic wire. Unbolt brake caliper from bracket and brake pads from caliper bracket and view Brake Pad retainers. Check the condition of the caliper slide boots, replace them if damaged. Refit the Brake Pad retainers and the new brake pads making sure the brake pads wear sensor is correctly in place. Screw the brake caliper back in place on the bracket, guide pin to 31 nm or 23 lb ft (Rotary citation). Change the tire and wheel assembly, reduce the vehicle, and with the engine turned off, slowly press the brake until it reaches about 2/3 its travel, then let go. After this, keep repeating it until a firm pedal is made where the caliper pistons and brake pads will be seated properly. At last, refill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the correct level and bomb the pads and rotors.
