Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 Brake Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear brake line (Jounce (W/O JL4)) on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?
A: Use the proper lifting tools to raise and stabilize the vehicle before cleaning both brake hose and pipe fittings of debris. To avoid brake fluid loss place rubber caps over damaged brake pipe ends. Use the back up wrench to release the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose while plugging or capping both ends of the brake pipe. Remove the mounting clip linking the brake hose to its bracket while taking the jounce hose out of the mounting bracket. Secure the brake pipe fitting ends with caps or plugs before disconnecting them. Separate the 2 brake pipes from the junction block on the rear axle by taping the ends with caps or plugs. Take out the brake hose from the vehicle by removing the junction block retaining bolt from the axle. Put the brake hose in place and bolt the junction block to the axle at 12 Nm torque. Secure the rear brake pipe ends to the junction block on the axle by tightening them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs., 25 Meter Kg). Keep the hose straight while also keeping it away from suspension parts. Put the brake hose in place under the suspension weight then attach it using the jounce hose maintaining clip. Thread the exposed brake pipe fitting end onto the brake hose in a clockwise direction using a back up wrench while maintaining straight alignment of the bracket and pipe. Check if the hose touches suspension parts; if it does remove and repair it. Finish by pumping out the fluid from the hydraulic brake lines before lowering the vehicle.
