Chevrolet Classic Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump in a 2.2 (L61) engine on Chevrolet Classic?
    A:
The procedure for Power Steering Pump replacement on a 2.2 (L61) engine begins by taking out the upper air cleaner and duct and then followed by removing the evap canister purge valve. You should disconnect Power Steering Hoses from the pump before removing the Power Steering Pump mounting bolts to extract the pump from the engine. The Power Steering Pump should be positioned on the engine before installing its mounting bolts which require 26 nm of torque (19 ft. Lbs.). You must put on the power steering hoses to the pump after which install the evap canister purge valve before replacing the upper air cleaner and duct. Proceed to add power steering fluid into the pump then perform air bleeding from the entire power steering system.
