Start inner Tie Rod service and repair by hoisting the vehicle before removing wheels and tires then booting the
Rack And Pinion. Complete the first step by removing the
Rack and Pinion Boot. Changing the rack bearing preload adjustment needs to be postponed until the inner Tie Rod separates from the steering rack for the avoidance of possible damage. Put the shock dampener off the inner Tie Rod to secure it onto the rack. Position the j 34028 inner Tie Rod wrench (J 34028) on the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing before rotating it counterclockwise to detach it from the rack through proper engagement. Remove all remnants of loctite® adhesive from the thread surfaces between the rack and the inner Tie Rod. According to procedure the shock dampener should be placed on the rack before applying loctite® to clean threads using only sufficient loctite® to cover the threads evenly. The inner Tie Rod threads need loctite® 262 (or equivalent) treatment before inner Tie Rod placement on the Rack And Pinion . The j 34028 torque wrench should be used to tighten the inner Tie Rod when holding the rack before reaching a torque of 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Place the shock dampener over the inner Tie Rod housing until it reaches the lowest point against the housing before installing the Rack And Pinion boat and then proceeding with the tire and wheel reinstallation. Restore the safety stands, lower up the vehicle and verify the wheel alignment.
