- Q: How to replace the starter motor for RPOs L61/LE5 on Chevrolet Cobalt?A: To replace the Starter motor for rpos l61-le5, first cut off the negative Battery Cable and lift and support the vehicle. The Starter solenoid terminal nut , the positive Battery Cable terminal , the Starter solenoid wire terminal , the Starter solenoid "s" terminal nut and the engine harness terminal should be removed from the Starter after which the Starter bolts are to be removed to take out the Starter. For installation, place the Starter on the engine making sure that you follow the fastener notice during installation, then install the Starter bolts torquing it to 40 n.m (30 lb ft). Refasten the engine harness terminal to the Starter and then to place the Starter solenoid "s" terminal nut and tighten it to 3 n.m (27 ft lb in). Then align the start solenoid wire terminal and the positive Battery Cable terminal with the anti-rotating tab sitting in the indexing slot. Finally, install the Starter solenoid terminal nut and tighten it 17 n.m (13 lb ft), drop the vehicle and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
