To service the Coolant Temperature Sensor/switch, one can disconnect the negative
Battery Cable and take off the air cleaner assembly. Do not try to remove the Radiator Cap or surge tank cap when the motor is hot in order to prevent being scalded by burning liquid and steam. Relieve the pressure in the cooling system and drain the cooling system below the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Remove the ect sensor connecting harness and the ect sensor. For installation, apply sealer to threads of a new ect sensor (GM P/N 9985253, or equivalent) and install it with 13 n.m (10 lb ft). Connect the ect sensor harness connector, refill the cooling system, install the air cleaner assembly, and finally connect the negative Battery Cable.
