How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on Chevrolet Impala?

The process starts by raising and supporting the vehicle before removing the rear wheels followed by the tires. Start by reducing the tension on the park brake system at the equalizer assembly before removing the rear caliper bracket and the rear rotor. Disconnect the rear park brake cable from its bracket at the rear wheel then detach the park brake cable return spring from the park brake actuator and bracket at the rear wheel. The removal step includes the rear hub assembly in combination with the rear hub along with the backing plate and park brake cable bracket and park brake actuator hardware. After separating the two retainers and the park brake cable bracket from the park brake actuator you can place the rear hub to the side.
