    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
You must lift the vehicle before starting work to access the disc Brake Backing Plate for replacement. To begin work on the brake system release the park brake pressure at the equalizer before removing the bracket and rotor at the rear. Unclip and take out the rear park brake cable from its bracket on the wheel. Also disconnect the park brake cable return spring from the park brake actuator and wheel bracket. The technician should take out all parts of the rear hub including the hub itself plus backing plate and park brake components as an assembly. The two retainers must come off along with the park brake cable bracket to release the park brake actuator. Place the entire rear hub assembly to the side afterward. Take out the Parking Brake Shoe and actuator unit from the back plate. First put the park brake actuator and shoe on the backing plate before you set the complete assembly over the hub. To complete the installation secure the two retainers and the park brake cable bracket first then fit the rear hub. Reattach the rear park brake cable to its bracket at the wheel base and snap the park brake cable return spring onto its positions at both the wheel base and park brake actuator. First put on the rear rotor then install the rear caliper bracket and lastly put on the rear wheels and tires at their appropriate positions. Set the park brake to its correct position at the equalizer before putting down the vehicle.
