The inflatable restraint coil assembly must remain unhinged from the Steering Column before you rotate the shaft because this approach prevents coil assembly damage. A visual examination of the Steering Shaft must be performed to look for sheared injected plastic material; new Steering Shaft installation is required if sheared plastic components are detected. The steering runout measurement using a dial indicator must be checked at the Steering Shaft bottom while spinning the wheel and should not exceed 1.60 mm.
