The first step for separating the steering shaft from the vehicle requires removing all components from the upper tilt head assembly. First detach the steering shaft seal together with the sensor retainer from the steering shaft assembly's end. Then discard the lower spring retainer before removing both the lower bearing spring and lower bearing seat . Next, remove the adapter and bearing assembly which is located in the steering column jacket assembly. After that remove the steering shaft assembly from the same assembly. You should mark the upper shaft assembly and lower steering shaft assembly for correct reassembly before taking out the 4 Torx head screws and steering column support assembly from the steering column jacket assembly. Incorrect assembly leads to a 180-degree steering wheel shift. Many professionals now separate the race and upper shaft assembly from the lower steering shaft assembly before rotating both pieces to 90 degrees and lifting the sphere out. To complete the disassembly use the following sequence: begin by rotating the centering sphere 90 degrees to extract it from the race and upper shaft assembly before removing the joint preload spring from the centering sphere.
