Chevrolet Prizm Wheel Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the drive axle shaft wheel seal on the 3 Speed-MB3 on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Start by lifting the vehicle before you support it to change the drive Axle Shaft seal on the 3 speed-mb3. Use the six bolts to detach both the left splash shield then the front wheel and tire. The next step requires removal of the drive axle from its position on the vehicle. The removal of the drive Axle Shaft fluid seal from the transaxle requires combining the pinion shaft and countergear bearing cup remover (J 26941) with the slide hammer (J 23907). Check the drive axle assembly differential-side joint surface for damage signs while ensuring it maintains an undamaged smooth top along with no burrs and scars which would destroy the new seal. The differential-side joint must be replaced if any damage appears. Professional technicians should use the differential side bearing seal installer (J 35553) along with a driver-side hammer or passenger-side hammer and socket for installing the new drive Axle Shaft fluid seal into the transaxle. Before reinstallation of the drive axle put Transmission Assembly lubricant (J 36850) on the new seal lip. Secure the front wheel and tire back in place before using the six bolts to fasten the left splash shield and tightening them to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.). Lower the vehicle down before performing any necessary transaxle refilling operation.
