Chevrolet Venture Control Arm Bushing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What tools are required to replace the front lower control arm bushings on Chevrolet Venture?
    A:
A set of Control Arm Bushing service tools (J 21474-01) combined with sprocket bearing removers (J 34126) and front knuckle supports (J 35379) is needed to replace front lower Control Arm bushings. Three tools needed for front lower Control Arm Bushing replacement include Control Arm Bushing service set (J 21474-01), sprocket bearing remover (J 34126), and front knuckle support (J 35379). Secure the lower Control Arm in a vice while you remove it from the vehicle. Draw a mark on the flat surface of the lower Control Arm Bushing flange. The threads of puller bolt (J 21474-27) require application of high-pressure lubricant (J 23444-A or equivalent) to install them properly. Construct the bushing removal tools by fitting the puller bolt (J 21474-27) with Control Arm Bushing installer (J 21474) and driven sprocket support bearing installer (J 34126) linked to front knuckle support (J 35379) through bushing installer (J 21474-2) and nut (J 21474-4). Next tighten nut (J 21474-4) until the bushing detaches from the Control Arm before separating all the removal tools. When placing the lower Control Arm vertical bushing make sure the installation keeps the vehicle's original ride performance together with road handling and road feel characteristics intact. Place the flat edge of the bushing flange correctly along the Control Arm mark while maintaining a 30-degree angle from the centerline and ensuring the thin slot points outboard. Use high-pressure lubricant (J 23444-A or equivalent) to treat the puller bolt's (J 21474-27) threaded section before putting the bushing through the Control Arm. The necessary installation equipment consists of a puller bolt (J 21474-27), Control Arm Bushing installer (J 21474) and bushing receiver (J 21474-5) and nut (J 21474-4). Tighten the nut (J 21474-4) throughout the installation process to achieve complete bushing insertion into the Control Arm. Next, remove the installation tools before installing the lower Control Arm.
  • Q: How to service and repair the front Control Arm Bushing of the all-wheel-drive on Chevrolet Venture?
    A:
To service and repair the front bushing of the all-wheel-drive Control Arm, lift and support the vehicle in the appropriate position. Take out the wheel and tire assemblies and rest the lower Control Arm with the help of a utility stand. Then get rid of the coil spring and make a deck on the lower Control Arm at the cam indicator. Unbolt the lower Control Arm to crossmember mounting bolts (1, 5) while paying attention to the orientation of the voids in the bushing relative to the crossmember. Continue with the removal of the bushing from a crossmember with the following tools from Control Arm bushing set (J 21474-01): Control Arm Bushing receiver (J 45411), j-6627-4 , j-21474-8 , and j-21474-4 . For installation the new bushing should be installed in same manner as old one with careful observations of the voids. Use the following parts - Control Arm Bushing set (J 21474 - 01) to place the bushing on the crossmember and then install the lower Control Arm and mounting bolts (1, 5) back into the crossmember, again so that the mark on the lower Control Arm is lining up with the cam indicator. Lastly, reinstall the coil spring, retighten the tire and wheel assemblies, and bring down the vehicle.
