How to replace the rear differential cover and gasket for the 8.0/8.6 inch axle on GMC Envoy?

The first step to change the rear axle housing cover and gasket for an 8.0/8.6 inch axle is to lift the vehicle and empty the rear axle. You should carefully loose the bolts on the rear axle housing cover without damaging the rear axle housing cover gasket. The first step removes the rear axle housing cover while draining the lubricant into an appropriate container. Check for cuts, nicks or damage on the rear axle cover gasket then replace it if you discover damage. For reusable gaskets you should use suitable cleaner on both elements along with gasket surfaces of rear axle housing and rear axle housing cover. After placing the rear axle housing cover gasket on the cover install both components before torquing the rear axle housing cover bolts. To attach the rear axle housing cover bolts on the 8.0 inch axle use a crosswise pattern at 30 N.m (20 lb ft) and for the 8.6 inch axle tightening torque should be 25 N.m (18 lb ft). The rear axle needs to receive its appropriate lubricant before you can return the vehicle to its normal position.

How to replace the rear differential cover and gasket on GMC Canyon?

Before you start the process of replacing the rear axle housing cover and gasket you need to elevate the vehicle and uninstall the bolt holding the rear brake pipe retainer and then the bolt of the mounting bracket before taking off the mounting brackets attached to the rear axle cover. Drain the rear axle by placing a suitable container underneath the axle and then remove the differential housing mounting bolts to detach the rear cover along with its gasket. Beginning with a cleaning process of the contact surfaces on the rear cover and gasket along with differential housing continues to the installation of both the rear brake pipe retainer and bracket followed by torquing the mounting bolt by hand. After which you should install the axle housing cover together with its gasket while making sure all mounting bolts receive a 30 N.m torque of 20 lb ft. For the brake pipe retainer the retaining bolt requires tightening to 20 N.m (14 lb ft). Complete the fluid filling process in the rear axle before lowering down the vehicle.

A: The first step to change the rear axle housing cover and gasket for an 8.0/8.6 inch axle is to lift the vehicle and empty the rear axle. You should carefully loose the bolts on the rear axle housing cover without damaging the rear axle housing cover gasket. The first step removes the rear axle housing cover while draining the lubricant into an appropriate container. Check for cuts, nicks or damage on the rear axle cover gasket then replace it if you discover damage. For reusable gaskets you should use suitable cleaner on both elements along with gasket surfaces of rear axle housing and rear axle housing cover. After placing the rear axle housing cover gasket on the cover install both components before torquing the rear axle housing cover bolts. To attach the rear axle housing cover bolts on the 8.0 inch axle use a crosswise pattern at 30 N.m (20 lb ft) and for the 8.6 inch axle tightening torque should be 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Beginning with a cleaning process of the contact surfaces on the rear cover and gasket along with differential housing continues to the installation of both the rear brake pipe retainer and bracket followed by torquing the mounting bolt by hand. After which you should install the axle housing cover together with its gasket while making sure all mounting bolts receive a 30 N.m torque of 20 lb ft.
