GMC Jimmy Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the lower ball joint on GMC Jimmy?
A: Start servicing the lower Ball Joint by raising and supporting the vehicle before taking off its tire and wheel components. After taking off the Torsion Bar you should remove the wheel drive shaft from its position. Start with a 3.175mm (1/8 inch) drill to make a 6.35mm (1/4 inch) deep hole at the center of lower Ball Joint rivet. Shift to a 12.7mm (1/2 inch) drill to remove the rivet heads. Push the pin punch through each rivet to unfasten them before taking the lower Ball Joint out of the Control Arm. Slip the lower Ball Joint onto its position on the lower Control Arm while keeping to the fastener notice instructions. Connect the lower Ball Joint bolts and nuts then tighten them to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.) torque. Put the wheel drive shaft back and position the Torsion Bar before putting tire and wheel together. After putting the vehicle down end to end check the front wheel alignment.
