MAP Sensor of the GMC Jimmy is an important device used to determine positive pressure of air getting into the intake manifold while feeding actual information to the ECU for fuel admixture. It's required for determining density of air and the right proportion of air and fuel for combustion particularly when it comes to the speed-density method. A naturally aspirated GMC Jimmy vehicles can have both, a MAP sensor or a mass airflow (MAF) sensor, while the forced induction vehicles should have both. It is useful in on-board diagnostics known as the OBD II and is significant in metering the fuel, controlling the ignition time and generally the performance of the engine.

GMC Jimmy MAP Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the MAP Sensor on GMC Jimmy?
    A:
Start servicing the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. Examine the grommet and check all harness connectors for looseness. Replace the sensor based on the diagnostic results showing a defective MAP Sensor. Turn the MAP Sensor the correct way before your removal to protect the sensor and the Intake Manifold from damage. Pull the MAP Sensor upward with gentle rocking movements to remove it from the system and remove and dispose of the old MAP Sensor grommet. To install the MAP Sensor you must first implement a new grommet onto the sensor followed by both sensor installation and harness connector reattachment and lastly reattach the Battery Cable.
