How to service and repair the front crankshaft seal on GMC Safari?

The crankshaft balancer needs removing as the first step for servicing and repairing the front crankshaft seal. To extract the crankshaft front oil seal select a proper tool and examine the engine front cover seal bore along with the crankshaft balancer seal area for damage. When installing the crankshaft front oil seal maintain the exterior surface clean of engine oil by using it to lubricate the part. The Crankshaft Aligner/Seal Installer (J 35468) operated with a hammer helps properly install the crankshaft front oil seal until it reaches a flush position square to the engine front cover before placing back the crankshaft balancer.
