GMC Savana 2500 Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on GMC Savana 2500?
A: The replacement of crankshaft rear oil seal requires removal of engine Flywheel followed by extraction of the oil seal from the rear cover. The removal of any Flywheel spacer (if present) must happen before oil seal installation while also avoiding oil application on the inside diameter of the oil seal and the crankshaft surface since the crankshaft rear oil seal remains unusable during the procedure. Apply clean engine oil to the outside diameter of the new seal before avoiding contact of any oil lubricant with the surface area. A clean engine oil application should coat the rear cover oil seal bore only after abiding by a specific area around the crankshaft surface. Attach the j 41479 tapered cone and bolts to the crankshaft rear end but stop before overtightening the bolts. Restrict the rear oil seal onto the tapered cone then push it forward towards the rear cover bore. Insert the j 41479 threaded rod into the tapered cone until it reaches the tool contact point on the oil seal before aligning the oil seal properly in the tool. After positioning the tool by rotating the handle in a clockwise direction the seal will fully enter the rear cover and stop in the designated bore of the cover. Remove j 41479 and install the engine Flywheel for completion of the procedure.
