The first step is to take off the engine cover in order to replace the
Spark Plug wires. Tweak each Spark Plug wire boot on the left engine side for half a turn before taking the wires off yet maintain boot pull from just the boot area while using tools built for this task. Move on to replace the Spark Plug wires on the right section of the engine. When you disconnect the Spark Plug wire from the
Distributor twist each boot 1/2 turn before pulling just the boot or choosing a purpose-built tool to proceed. The wire clips should be removed first and then both the coil wire and Distributor wire need to be separated. Before putting the Spark Plug wires back into place empty both boots with a small dab of dielectric silicone grease (GM P/N 12345579). Start by attaching coil wire connections to coil and Distributor and then do the Spark Plug wire connections to Distributor. Secure the wires in their respective clips starting with the right engine side and then the left engine side. Place each Spark Plug wire to its corresponding plug. Check the wires' correct installation by pushing on each boot sideways so they fit properly then reposition any displaced boots. Service procedure requires keeping all wires in their original positions to avoid radio ignition noise and cross-plug fires and lead-ground shorts. Finally, reinstall the engine cover.
