First, remove the
Water Pump, the crankshaft balancer, remove
Oil Pan to front cover bolts and front cover bolts in order to remove the engine front cover. Next, you should remove the front cover, and gasket, throwing the old gasket away. In case it is necessary, clean and check the engine front cover. It is essential not to do reuse crankshaft and oil seal found cover gasket and to not use any sealant on the found cover gasket except if specified. Make sure that all gasket surfaces are clean of oil or foreign material when assembling and align the crankshaft front oil seal relative to the crankshaft to avoid premature wear and oil leaks. Pre-apply a 5 mm (0.20 inch) bead of sealant gm p/n 12378190, or equivalent, 20 mm (0.80 inch) long on the Oil Pan to engine block junction, then apply the front cover gasket and cover. Tighten the front cover bolts and Oil Pan- to front cover bolts until snug and make sure there is no overtightening. Using the j41476 front and rear cover alignment tool j41476 , align the front cover correctly in such a way that the tapered legs that face the machined surfaces. Tighten the Oil Pan to front cover and bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and the engine front cover bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Take out the j41476, then install a new crankshaft front oil seal and last but not least install a new Water Pump.
