GMC Yukon XL 2500 Brake Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear brake line on GMC Yukon XL 2500?
A: To replace rear (Caliper) brake hose, raise and support vehicle and tire and wheel assembly. Clean all dirt and foreign matter from brake hose end and brake pipe fitting, and attach a rubber cover or plug on brake fitting end to the exposed brake pipe to prevent brake fluid from losing and contaminating there. Use a back up wrench on the brake hose end to remove the brake pipe end from brake hose and cap/plug the brake pipe end. Take out the brake hose from the bracket, remove brake hose retaining clip from the mounting bracket. Next will be the unpicking of the brake hose caliper bolt from the brake caliper and discarding the 2 copper brake hose gaskets which could be stuck to the brake caliper housing or the brake hose end. For installation, also install 2 new copper brake hose gaskets and the brake hose bolt to the brake hose, then install the brake hose to caliper bolt and 2 new washers to the brake caliper, tightening the bolt to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) and make sure brake hose is not twisted or in contact with any suspension component. Mount the brake hose into the mounting bracket and secure with brake hose retaining clip. Take off the rubber cap or plug from the exposed brake pipe fitting end and join the brake pipe fitting end with the brake hose end using a back up wrench in the brake hose part end without bending the mounting bracket or the brake pipe while tightening the brake hose fitting end end at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Bleed the hydraulic brake system and reinstall the tire and wheel assembly getting the brake house free from touching parts of the suspension and the tire/wheel assembly. If it does so, then it is necessary to remove the brake hose and fix the condition before lowering the vehicle.
