    Q:
How to replace the Automatic Transmission Range Selector Shift Cable on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for Shift Cable replacement requires positioning the Steering Column shift lever to park position followed by instrument panel knee bolster and driver seat removal. The first task includes pulling back carpet and insulation from the driver side while removing the retainer that holds the cable to the Steering Column. When replacing the Shift Cable users must detach the cable end from the Steering Column ball stud while depressing the tangs to disengage the cable from the Steering Column bracket and must keep the Shift Cable free from unnecessary bending or twisting. Eliminate the Shift Cable from both the support and the cable grommet of the floor panel. The operator should first raise and support the vehicle and then detach the clips securing the cable to the floor panel reinforcement while the manual transmission shaft rests in mechanical park position. Removal of cable clip on the Transfer Case then separation of Shift Cable from transmission range selector lever ball stud is necessary for equipped vehicles. After removing the bracket-retaining retainer you should depress the tangs of the cable to extract it from the bracket and place the Shift Cable outside the vehicle. Install the Shift Cable on the vehicle while maintaining manual transmission shaft lever at mechanical park. The Shift Cable receives installation on the bracket before use of the retainer for cable fixation. Connect the Shift Cable end to the ball stud of the selector lever after installing the cable clip to the Transfer Case if equipped. You must instantly attach the cable clips to the floor panel reinforcement and until the vehicle reaches ground level while the Steering Column shift lever stays in the park position. Install the cable grommet to the floor panel positioning it correctly before securing the cable to its support and Steering Column bracket where tang engagement should be complete. After attaching the cable end to the Steering Column ball stud install the retainer on the Steering Column before moving forward with reinstallation of carpet and insulation near the driver area followed by driver seat installation and instrument panel knee bolster. Check the transmission shift function while also adjusting the cable to reach every operating position.
