Serpentine Belt

Start replacement of the Drive Belt by taking off any auxiliary Drive Belt that is present. A 1/2 in. Drive extension should be used to alleviate tension from the belt drive tensioner allowing you to take the Drive Belt from the Power Steering Pump before slowly resetting the tensioner to its original position for belt removal. When installing drive the new belt proceed by threading it only through the pulleys that are not the Power Steering Pump and the Drive Belt tensioner. When running the belt around the tensioner wheel use a 1/2 in. Drive extension to apply pressure on the tensioner. During tension application replace the belt through all pulleys so it fits correctly before loosening the tensioner to the start position for applying Drive Belt tension. After completion of belt installation check the route and position of belt alignment and re-install auxiliary belts if they are present before starting the engine for belt and accessory functionality validation.

The first step to service and repair the Drive Belt includes installing a 1/2 inch drive extension on the belt drive tensioner then pushing down on the extension to obtain tension release. Slide the Drive Belt off the Power Steering Pump after which you should gradually return the tensioner to its starting location before pulling out the belt. Install the Drive Belt with the following sequence of pulleys: Power Steering Pump should be omitted as well as the Drive Belt tensioner . A 1/2 inch drive extension goes into the Drive Belt tensioner allowing you to push down the tensioner to feed the belt around its wheel. Accomplish the belt pathway after tensioning the belt to ensure proper seating in all pulleys. Guided by the original position you should let go of tensioner movement to place tension on the Drive Belt. Between installation steps check the belt for correct position and alignment before starting the motor to test accessory and belt functionality.

A 1/2 inch drive extension should go into the belt drive tensioner while pulling down on the extension to achieve tension release prior to belt removal. The Power Steering Pump Drive Belt must be taken off before you release the tensioner to its original position while leaving the belt in place. When installing the Drive Belt guide it through all pulleys except those of the Power Steering Pump and Drive Belt tensioner. When working with the Drive Belt tensioner use a 1/2 inch drive extension to push the tensioner down while installing the belt around its wheel. The belt installation requires finishing belt placement so every pulley has the belt united correctly before proceeding with belt tension. Shift the tensioner back to its present position to generate pressure on the Drive Belt. Check the belt routing and alignment after installation then start the engine to confirm the correct operation of accessories and belt.

Use a 15 mm box end wrench on the pulley nut to rotate the drive belt tensioner counterclockwise and remove the drive belt.

Remove the right front wheelhouse liner.

Tighten the auxiliary generator mounting bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

Insert a 1/2 inch drive extension into the drive belt tensioner, push down on the tensioner, and feed the belt around the tensioner wheel.

While pulling upward on the auxiliary generator, tighten the auxiliary generator adjusting bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Inspect the drive belt for proper routing and alignment.

Ensure the belt is properly seated in all pulleys.

Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump and slowly return the tensioner to its original position.

Slowly return the tensioner to its original position to apply tension to the drive belt.

Tighten the auxiliary generator mounting bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

Route the new drive belt around all pulleys except for the power steering pump and the drive belt tensioner.

First, remove the water pump drive belt tensioner.

Slowly return the tensioner to its original position before removing the belt.

First, install a 1/2 inch drive extension into the belt drive tensioner and push down to release tension. Then, remove the drive belt from the power steering pump and slowly return the tensioner to its original position before removing the belt.
