Negative Cable

Begin by recording radio presets and theft codes but turn off the ignition with the switch in lock position before switching off all lights including interior and underhood lamps while keeping all vehicle doors sealed. Start by unscrewing the negative Battery Cable bolt and pull out the cable from the battery as you position it safely away from vehicle ground. Verify that all electrical components are off before you clean corrosion from the negative Battery Cable using a wire brush and position the cable correctly onto the battery. Tighten the negative Battery Cable bolt with a torque of 15 n.m (11 lb ft).

Use new wires specifically matching the original cable dimensions for replacements and keep the new wiring path the same as the existing one. Start by removing the battery negative cable. Disengage the bolt that anchors the battery negative cable to the battery tray and release the battery cable harness retainer at the battery tray location. Extract the negative cable of the battery through the top part of the conduit. The vehicle needs to be raised to a height that allows cable access through the wheelhouse before taking out the left wheelhouse liner. Start by removing the bolt which keeps the battery negative cable secured to the engine block. At the same time open the battery cable harness retainer which is present at the engine wiring harness bracket. Pull the battery negative cable outside the battery cables harness conduit. After inserting the battery negative cable into the battery cables harness conduit you should close the battery cable harness retainer at the engine wiring harness bracket. When securing the battery negative cable to the engine block, ensure the bolt is tightened to a torque of 35 N.m (26 lb ft). The installation process involves reinstalling the left wheelhouse liner then lowering the vehicle and positioning the battery negative cable into the upper section of the battery cables harness conduit. Install the battery negative cable bolt to the battery tray while tightening it to 9 N.m (80 lb in). The last step involves connecting the battery negative cable.

Install and tighten the bolt that secures the harness to the engine block to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

Clip the harness to the engine harness bracket.

Take off the harness from the engine harness bracket and remove the bolt that secures the harness to the engine block.

Remove the battery cable conduit from the conduit retaining clip and take out the battery positive cable from the conduit.

Install the battery positive cable harness to the fire-free retainer on the PCM bracket, then install the cable into the conduit.

Position the new battery positive cable in the engine compartment.

Ensure the ignition key is in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads are OFF. Record all preset and theft codes from the radio, turn off all lamps and accessories, and then turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.

Loosen the negative battery cable bolt and remove the negative battery cable from the battery, positioning it away from any body ground.
