    Q:
How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on Chevrolet Tahoe? Posted by Customer
    A:
Apply the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) or Steering Column lock or secure a strap to the steering wheel to prevent wheel rotation before removing the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable. Do this step to protect the sir system from damage. Remove the Steering Column followed by intermediate shaft(s) and steering gear but avoid wheel rotation or tire movement to prevent sir coil assembly un-centering. Check that wheels maintain straight alignment and anti-rotation pin stays installed or steering component stays locked prior to steering wheel uninstallation. Start by taking out the Steering Column shroud and disconnect all required power cables. The inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil retaining ring must be discarded before removing the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Remove and dispose of any original coils when changing equipment. When installing a new sir coil assembly center it properly yet wait to remove the centering tab until all installation steps are finished. Position the new inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil so it lines up with the horn tower on the turn signal switch cancel cam then guide it onto the Steering Shaft. Press the new retaining ring firmly into position next to the Steering Shaft's groove. Afterward remove the centering tab from the fresh coil. First route electrical connectors before installing the Steering Column shroud and steering wheel followed by extraction of the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).

    Q:
How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on GMC Sierra 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Prior to air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable removal and replacement secure the Steering Wheel with a Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) or column lock or safety strap to avoid sir system damage. Follow these procedures when working on the Steering Column and intermediate shaft(s) but avoid moving the front tires or rotating the Steering Wheel because that could un-center the sir coil assembly. Check wheel direction alignment and verify the anti-rotation pin (J 42640) is present or the ignition switch is in the lock position before removing the Steering Wheel, then the Steering Column shroud, followed by electrical connector disconnection. First remove the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil retaining ring before extracting the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil. The procedure calls for discarding any previous coil when replacing it. First install the sir coil assembly into the proper central position before removing the centering tab after complete installation. The installation procedure for an existing coil requires proper coil alignment. Lay the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil over the horn tower on the turn signal switch cancel cam before sliding it onto the Steering Shaft and getting the new retaining ring perfectly seated in the Steering Shaft groove. Replace the centering tab from your new steering coil after you reconnect electrical connections and install both the Steering Column shroud followed by the Steering Wheel. As the last step, remove the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).

    Q:
How to Remove and Replace the Air Bag Clockspring Assembly on GMC Yukon? Posted by Customer
    A:
You must order the air bag clock spring assembly / spiral cable by first straightening your vehicle wheels and applying the Steering Wheel using the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640), steering column lock, or a strap to stop wheel rotation since this protects the sir system from breaking down. Disconnect the Steering Column and intermediate shaft(s) and steering gear while keeping the front tires stationary to avoid shifting the sir coil assembly out of center. Check that both wheels remain straight while an anti-rotation pin is installed and the ignition key is in lock position before beginning to remove the Steering Wheel along with the Steering Column shroud. Begin by disconnecting electrical connectors and remove and discard the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil retaining ring alongside the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil. The old coil requires disposal when replacement is needed. When installing the new sir coil assembly always keep it centered before removing the centering tab at installation completion. Slip the new inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module coil next to the horn tower on the turn signal switch cancel cam before mounting it onto the Steering Shaft and installing the new retaining ring. Before moving forward install the Steering Wheel but first reconnect all electrical components and discard the centering tab from the new coil assembly. The replacement ends with the removal of anti-rotation pin (J 42640).
