    Q:
How to service and repair the Air Bag Clockspring on Cadillac Escalade ESV? Posted by Customer
    A:
While servicing and repairing the inflatable restraint air bag clock spring, ensure to center the new sir coil assembly to avoid any damage and malfunctions. Before centering, make sure that the wheels of the vehicle are straight ahead, and the block tooth of the Steering Shaft assembly is at 12 o'clock position, and the Ignition Switch is also in lock position. At the center of the sir coil is a centering window at the front. Center the sir coil by positioning face up and turning the coil hub clockwise until the ribbon stops, then turning the hub counterclockwise until the centering window turns yellow (left-to-right direction) and both arrows are aligned. This means it is in the center position. With the same attitude only align the loop of the sir coil with that of the horn tower and slide it onto the Steering Shaft assembly. If you have a double wire harness strap, you should route the wires along the Steering Column, ensuring that one strap wraps one lead from the coil to the Steering Column while the second strap wraps all other leads to the Steering Column.

    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Clockspring on Cadillac Escalade EXT? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the inflatable restraint air bag clock spring, disable the sir system. Make sure that the wheels of the vehicle are pointing straight forward and the Steering Column is in the lock position, before removing the Steering Column or intermediate shaft from the steering gear to protect from sir coil assembly damages. Apply the Steering Column anti rotation pin (J 42640) to fix the Steering Column. Pull the Steering Wheel off the Steering Column after removing the Steering Wheel from the Steering Shaft and also after removing the Steering Column trim covers and wires harness straps from the Steering Wheel column wire harness. Next, take off the retaining ring and the sir coil off of the Steering Shaft; throwing the old coil out if one is replacing it. During the installation of the new sir coil assembly, ensure that it is centrally located and do not remove the centering tab until the installation is done. Mount the sir coil assembly against the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly and slide the sir coil onto the Steering Shaft assembly and ensure that the retaining ring is seated and locked in the groove in the Steering Shaft assembly. Take off the centering tab from the new sir coil and reinstall the Steering Column trim covers and Steering Wheel, and you can then enable the sir system.
