    Q:
How to address binding or sticking door lock cylinders and difficulty in inserting and removing keys on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
    A:
To correct binding or sticking door lock cylinders and problems in inserting and removing keys, use the correct lubrication with lubricant GM P/N 12346241 or equivalent, do not use penetrating lubricants such as GM P/N 1052949 or WD-40(R) as they wash out If lock cylinders get frozen during winter, apply heat very carefully on the cylinder using a heat gun without damaging the painted surfaces. Use a paper clip or similar object to keep the door shutter open and pressurize air into the cylinders using compressed air via a blow gun attachment. With the shutter door open, put small quantities of the recommended lubrication into the cylinder and work the key into the cylinder several times and with each insertion, wipe away any lubrication from the key.

    Q:
How to address binding or sticking door lock cylinders and difficulty in inserting and removing keys on Chevrolet Tahoe? Posted by Customer
    A:
Door lock cylinders should be properly lubricated with GM P/N 12346241 or equivalent products while users should avoid using GM P/N 1052949 or WD-40(R) because these penetrating fluids remove the original lubrication leading to minimal material for lubrication. The procedure for warming up frozen lock cylinders in cold weather requires heating the cylinder with a heat gun but the paint on the surface must be protected from damage. Make the door shutter accessible by placing a paper clip there before using compressed air from a blow gun to introduce pressure into the cylinders. You should both keep the shutter door open and work the key into the cylinder multiple times after droplet injections of suggested lubricant so you can wipe off any surplus lubrication from the key.
