    Q:
How to replace the center exhaust pipe on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start by securely raising and supporting the vehicle and placing adjustable jack stands below the front and rear part of the intermediate pipe. The band clamps (2, 5) securing the exhaust muffler need loose tightening before removing the left and right tailpipe/muffler components from the intermediate pipe. Beginning by removing Exhaust Pipe hanger lower bolts and exhaust manifold nuts you should then lower the jack stands before taking away the intermediate pipe. Before reinstalling the original intermediate pipe the Tail Pipe/muffler band clips must be replaced by marking their positions on the intermediate Exhaust Pipe before grinding off the old clips then placing new ones according to the marks. Install the intermediate pipe onto the jack stands before raising the stands to achieve correct position. Screw all exhaust clamps and bolts tightly but do not overtighten them due to proper alignment requirements. Remove the adjustable jack stands afterwards. Tighten the exhaust muffler clamps (2, 5) with 44 n.m (32 lb ft), while the exhaust clamps bolts must reach 44 n.m (32 lb ft) followed by torquing the exhaust manifold nuts (7, 12) to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) and the Exhaust Pipe hanger lower bolts (1, 3, 6) to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Finally, lower the vehicle.
