    Q:
How to replace the front drive shaft on Chevrolet Tahoe? Posted by Customer
    A:
A vehicle rise is first required to replace the front propeller shaft. Start by removing the transfer case shield but perform shield renewal based on the bw 4485-nr3 or mp 3023/3024-nqh transfer case specific instructions. Use a flat-bladed tool to pry up the clamp located at the transfer case. Squeezing yoke ears or inserting tools between the joint and the universal alignment will result in damage to the injection points. Mark the attachment point of the front propeller shaft to the front axle flange then drain out the retaining bolts from both pinion yoke retainers while keeping the bearing assemblies in place. Newly secured bearing caps with tape follow the disconnect of the propeller shaft from the front axle pinion yoke. First remove the boot covering the transfer case output shaft groove before taking off the propeller shaft from the output shaft. First step to remove the boot clamp from the axis shaft joint and proceed with boot extraction. The installation process requires inspection of transfer case output shaft splines for sufficient lubrication which you can add gm p/n 12345879 (Canadian P/N 10953511) grease or equivalent grease with gm specification 9985830. Mount the propeller shaft boot and its boot clamp onto the transfer case output shaft before introducing the propeller shaft splines to match the relationship marks. Position the propeller shaft back to the front axle pinion yoke while both reference marks must match. Combine the Universal Joint retainers with their bolts and tighten them to reach 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque. Use the j-43218 clamp pliers narrow jaw to crimp the clamps after setting the boot onto the transfer case output shaft where it rests in the groove. Install the transfer case shield according to the specific needs followed by transfer case fluid check and vehicle lowering.

    Q:
How to replace the front drive shaft on GMC Yukon? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should begin propeller shaft replacement by first lifting the vehicle and then removing any Transfer Case shield that exists. Vehicle owners should replace the Transfer Case as per bw 4485-nr3 instructions while users of mp 3023/3024-nqh Transfer Case need to perform the required replacement process. The exposed end of the clamp requires prying with a flat-bladed tool in order to remove it at the Transfer Case. Avoid applying force to the yoke ears and never insert a tool between the Universal Joint and yoke to prevent damaging the injection joints. Make a note of how the front propeller shaft interacts with the drive axle flange before you uninstall all bolts and yoke retainers from the front axle pinion yoke. Keep the bearing caps from dropping. The propeller shaft needs to detach from the front axle pinion yoke and tape should be used to secure the bearing caps in their position. First remove the Transfer Case output shaft boot from its groove and then take off the propeller shaft from the output shaft. To complete the removal, unfasten the boot clamp first and then take out the boot. Before installation check the Transfer Case output shaft splines for adequate lubrication then apply gm p/n 12345879 (Canadian P/N 10953511) or an equivalent to the specified gm specification: 9985830. Place the propeller shaft boot alongside the boot clamp before slipping the propeller shaft splines into the Transfer Case output shaft while keeping the relationship marks properly aligned. Next reinstall the front axle pinion yoke propeller shaft while guarding the reference marks created at removal. Fasten Universal Joint retainers and bolts using torque of 25 nm (18 lb ft). The boot requires snapping onto the Transfer Case output shaft until it reaches the groove before crimping the clamps with j-43218 - clamp pliers - narrow jaw. The Transfer Case shield must follow specific installation procedure while inspecting the Transfer Case fluid level before the vehicle is lowered to the ground.
