    Q:
How to replace the front brake disc on Cadillac DTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process starts with the basic tools of a disc resurfacing kit (J 41013) and wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A). Disassemble the tire and wheel unit first. With a c-clamp set in place you should compress the Brake Caliper Piston to release space for moving the caliper away from the disc before taking out the c-clamp. Put the brake caliper on heavy mechanic wire to guard against damage to the brake hose during the job. Take off the brake caliper and combined mounting bracket system while keeping the brake hose stress-free. Make a note about how the disc fits the hub before taking off the Brake Disc. Take away all rust and grime from the hub/axle flange through the wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A) and from the Brake Disc through the disc resurfacing kit (J 41013). Look for debris on the mating surfaces before placing the new Brake Disc into position and matching the marks. Determine the lateral runout of the Brake Disc on the newly assembled unit and adjust it when the values exceed manufacturer standards. Replace the Brake Caliper Bracket and install both tire and wheel unit. After lowering the vehicle users need to apply light friction to both pads and discs when new components are installed.

    Q:
Is Burnishing the Brake Pads and Brake Disc Essential for Proper Preparation After Servicing the Disc Brake System on Buick Lucerne? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is critical to burnish the brake pads and discs in order to properly prepare the braking surfaces after servicing the disc braking system especially during the situations where discs have been refinished or replaced or in the case where the pads have been replaced. In order to carry out such a procedure, choose a smooth road with slow traffic and pick up maximum pace of the vehicle leading to 48 km/h (30 mph) while ensuring that you do not over heat the brakes. Press brakes lightly to a moderate or firm pressure to stop the vehicle without letting the brakes lock. Repeat the process of acceleration and braking until about 20 stops have been made with enough cooling periods between stops to effectively burnish the brake pads and discs.
