To replace the Tailgate Handle, first you will need to throw open the endgate and remove the trim panel on the endgate. Next, remove the rear Body Control Module and the inner panel reinforcement. Remove the electrical connector from the endgate handles, remove the screws holding the handles to the license plate pocket, and remove the handles out of the endgate. For installation, begin by reinstalling the handles back in the endgate by observing the fastener notice in service precautions. Screw the handles into the license plate pocket making sure that they are tight at 2.5 n.m (22 lb in). Reconnect the electrical connector to the endgate handles, install the inner panel reinforcement and the rear Body Control Module, and finally the trim panel to the endgate should be reinstalled.

Start by opening the end gate while swinging it and thereafter removing the trim panel attached to the end gate. Start by removing both the rear Body Control Module and the inner panel reinforcement. Disconnect the electrical connector from the end gate handle(s) and remove screws which hold the handle(s) to the license plate pocket before you remove it from the end gate. Start by attaching the handle(s) to the end gate and carefully follow the fastener notice in service precautions. Begin by tightening screws which hold the handle(s) to the license plate pocket at 2.5 n.m (22 lb in) torque. After that, reattach the electrical connector to the end gate handle(s). The procedure finishes when you replace the inner panel reinforcement together with the rear Body Control Module and the trim panel.

Reattach the lock rod to the outside door handle and secure it with the clip.

Install the handle retaining bolt and tighten it to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

Remove the 2 door handle retaining nuts and take the handle assembly out of the door.

Reattach the lock rod to the handle and secure it with the clip.

Install the spring clip onto the new rear side access door handle.

Install the door trim panel back onto the door.

Reconnect the upper lock rod to the handle assembly and install the lock rod retainer.

If equipped, install the lock cylinder to the handle, then attach the handle assembly to the door.

Attach the lock cylinder rod to the handle assembly and install the cylinder lock rod retainer.

Tighten the 2 door handle retaining nuts to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

Take the handle out of the door.

Insert the handle locator tab into the locator cutout and move the handle rearward, ensuring the fastener hole aligns with the door.

Remove the door trim panel and the handle retaining bolt.

Release the rod retainer locks and remove the rods from the handle before taking the handle out of the door.

Tighten to 10 N.m (88 lb in).

Tighten it to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
