Remove the weld pieces from the hinge and smooth the pillar hinge mating area by grinding. Use the initial drill holes to guide you in drilling 13 mm (33/64 in) holes through the pillar. You should consult gm 4901m-d-2000 to find suitable products before painting while avoiding mixtures of paint systems. After applying paint according to gm refinish specification gm 4901m-d-2000 on the bare pillar hinge mounting surface you should install the service hinge along with its backing plate and tighten the bolts to 23 n.m (17 lb ft). Use clear silicone sealant to cover the entire perimeter of the service hinge before mounting the door and adjusting the front side Door Striker for smooth door alignment. Install the interior trim pieces that will be visible on the pillar.

The first step before replacing the intermediate side Door Hinge on the body side is painting the service hinges the body color. Use gm refinish paint according to gm 4901m-d-2000 specification to coat the bare surface of the pillar hinge mount area before installing the service hinge with backing plate and tightening it to 23 nm (17 lb ft). A complete application of clear silicone sealant should cover the service hinge edge before door installation and Door Striker adjustment will ensure proper door closeness. The last step involves reattaching the pillar interior components.

Ensure that both hinges on the same panel are replaced one at a time.

Deburr the holes on the inside of the hinge pillar or door and inspect the hinge seating zone for flatness.

With an assistant, install the hinge to the body and the door, ensuring to install the screws loosely.

Tighten the bolts to the recommended preliminary torque of 5 N.m (44 lb in).

Align the door as required and do not close it completely until visually checking that the lock will correctly engage the striker.

Use a suitable tool to install the lower hinge pin bushings to the body and the upper hinge pin bushings to the door.

Install the door to the body, aligning it as necessary.

Drill a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole completely through the spot welds at each center punch mark.

First, paint the service hinges body color.

Move the backing plate rearward 4 mm (0.16 in).

Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
