Before removing an automatic transmission shift lever you need to disable its sir system because of safety concerns. Before working on the shift lever you must first lift the shift lever seal before possibly detaching any steering column trim pieces. Connectors at the column base should be powered off before removing the shift lever screw which fastens the shift lever assembly. Pull the shift lever and seal out of the linear shift assembly while making sure the shift lever seal removal occurs by moving it toward the narrow end of the shift lever. You should install the shift lever seal on the narrow end of the shift lever assembly before reinstalling the shift lever assembly onto the linear shift assembly. Fully insert and tighten the shift lever screw to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) within the shift lever assembly. Slip the shift lever seal along the shift lever assembly until it reaches position with the steering column trim covers. The installation process ends with enabling the sir system after reinstalling any steering column trim covers when needed.

One must disable the sir system through required safety precautions before performing shift lever replacement operations on automatic transmissions. Raise the shift lever seal towards the shift lever before you remove the steering column trim covers if required. Detach the shift connector located at the column base before removing the shift lever screw installed on the shift lever assembly. Leaning the shift lever seal to the narrow section of the shift lever while removing the shift lever and seal from the linear shift assembly. Insert the shift lever seal onto the narrow end of shift lever assembly before installing the shift lever assembly to linear shift assembly. The shift lever screw needs to be inserted into the shift lever assembly before final tightening to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Move the shift lever seal down from end to end of the shift lever assembly until it reaches proper alignment with the steering column trim covers. After reattaching the steering column trim covers enable the sir system if needed.

The procedure of replacing the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers requires starting by removing the throttle body air inlet duct. You must first disconnect the automatic transaxle shift levers cable from its position on the automatic transaxle shift levers before removing its retaining nut. Start the replacement of the automatic transaxle shift levers by removing it from the automatic transaxle. To install the automatic transaxle shift levers you must first position it onto the automatic transaxle while following the fastener notice in service precautions. Fasten the levers using the retaining nut before tightening it to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Mount the automatic transaxle shift levers cable back onto its position on the levers before making possible adjustments to the cable connection. The installation process requires reinstallation of the throttle body air inlet duct.

Reconnect the shift lever connector.

Remove the shift lever screw from the shift lever assembly.

Reconnect the A/T range selector lever cable to the A/T range selector lever.

Take off the wire harness straps and detach the wire harness assembly from the wire restraint clip.

Reconnect the A/T range selector lever cable to the A/T range selector lever.

Position the console shift control.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the traction control harness and carefully feed the harness out of the column, noting its routing for reassembly.
