    Q:
How to replace the inner tie rod of the Quiet Valve on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the inner Tie Rod replacement process of the quiet valve by first removing the Rack and Pinion Boot and securing the gear in a vise while keeping the steering gear preload intact until you detach the inner Tie Rod to avoid damage. The shock dampener must then return onto the rack following inner Tie Rod assembly removal. A pipe wrench should be placed on the rack section near the inner Tie Rod housing while applying a wrench to the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing for counterclockwise rotation until the rack and inner Tie Rod parts separate. The shock damper should be removed from the inner Tie Rod housing then fitted back onto the rack structure. A pipe wrench on the rack alongside a wrench on the inner Tie Rod housing flats enables you to rotate it counterclockwise until the inner Tie Rod completely detaches from the rack. The threads of the inner Tie Rod and rack require cleaning of existing loctite except when the configuration matches male rack and female inner Tie Rod. The shock dampener should be positioned forward onto the rack first before applying loctite 262 or an equivalent product to the inner Tie Rod threads in cases where the rack and inner Tie Rod have different thread types. The process to attach the inner Tie Rod to the rack requires using a pipe wrench on the rack next to the inner Tie Rod housing along with a torque wrench with j 34028 on the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing for a 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.) torque. Use threads that are clean before applying loctite 262 or equivalent to the inner Tie Rod threads under female rack and male inner Tie Rod configurations. Secure the inner Tie Rod to the rack through the combination of a pipe wrench on the inner Tie Rod housing side of the rack and a torque wrench equipped with j 34028 socket that should be torqued to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Grip the inner Tie Rod assembly for placement in a vise to stake both sides of the female inner Tie Rod assembly housing to the male rack in cases where the configuration is female rack and male inner Tie Rod or male rack and female inner Tie Rod . The 0.25 mm gauge should be used to verify stake placement on both components where it ensures a gap-free connection between the rack and housing stake. The shock dampener should slide onto the inner Tie Rod housing and rest at its bottom point before you reassemble both rack and pinion parts.
