First standing procedure is to follow sir safety protocols before replacing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal. The Steering Column removal process requires intact attachment of the upper intermediate shaft. Set the intermediate shaft seal onto the mod plate while checking that it forms a perfect seal against the mod plate. Following installation of the steerable seal, attach the Steering Column while enabling the sir system.

The first step for intermediate Steering Shaft seal replacement requires following the sir caution in service precautions. Begin Steering Column extraction with the upper intermediate shaft still fixed for the following operation. Extract the intermediate shaft seal from the mod plate during this next step. After seating the new intermediate shaft seal onto the mod plate it needs to be set correctly for installation. Installation of the Steering Column should follow this procedure. The sir system activation process requires you to complete procedures for sir disabling and enabling zone 3 in restraint systems.

Service teams need to follow the sir caution in service precautions before performing intermediate Steering Shaft seal replacement. The upper intermediate shaft remains attached as the Steering Column gets extracted. Next remove the Steering Column then extract the intermediate shaft seal from the mod plate. Install the new intermediate shaft seal onto the mod plate so it forms an adequate seal between the intermediate shaft seal and the mod plate. Reinstall the Steering Column and refer to the sir disabling and enabling zone 3 in air bags and seat belts for system activation instructions.

Before installing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal start by reading and following the sir caution information in service precautions. Steering Column extraction requires retention of the upper intermediate shaft. The intermediate shaft seal should be removed from the mod plate following Steering Column removal. The new intermediate shaft seal needs installation by placing it directly on the mod plate where it must create an effective seal between the intermediate shaft seal and the mod plate. Install the Steering Column according to the sir system enabling instructions located in sir disabling and enabling zone 3.

Ensure the wheels are straight ahead and the steering column is in the LOCK position to prevent damage to the coil assembly.

Tighten them to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).

Reinstall the fuel bundle into the under hood fasteners, followed by the vacuum brake booster, and finally the steering column and intermediate steering shaft.

Disconnect the fuel lines from the under hood fasteners.

Ensure it is seated correctly before reinstalling the steering column.

Next, take out the intermediate steering shaft seal from inside the vehicle.

Place the new intermediate shaft seal onto the mod plate, ensuring a proper seal between the intermediate shaft seal and the mod plate.

Place the new intermediate shaft seal into the vehicle, ensuring it aligns with the holes on the floor pan, and secure it with the intermediate shaft seal bolts tightened to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).
