  A: The first step for intermediate steering shaft seal replacement requires positioning your wheels straight ahead and locking the Steering Column into the lock position before proceeding to avoid damage to the coil assembly. The Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) serves to keep the Steering Column in place. The next procedure involves removing the dash insulator together with disconnecting the intermediate shaft seal from the Steering Column and the intermediate shaft. The intermediate shaft requires downward force to achieve collapse before bolt removal from the intermediate shaft seal while possibly requiring separate lower portion removal from the steering gear. Reinstall the lower seal onto the intermediate shaft before securing it to the steering gear followed by placing the upper seal on top of the lower seal and routing it toward the instrument panel. Secure the intermediate shaft to the Steering Column while attaching the intermediate shaft seal to the column's surface then bolt the seal using 3 n.m (27 lb in) torque. Safely reinstall the dash insulator followed by the removal of the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the column.
