Front Impact Sensor

To replace the inflatable restraint side impact sensor, first, the SIR system should be deactivated. Take off the front door trim panel, and remove the two fastener gently the inflatable restraint side impact sensor. Removed the inflatable restraint side impact sensor from the door and remove the inflatable restraint side impact sensor yellow 2-way harness connector by removing the connector position assurance (CPA). For installation put yellow 2-way harness connector to inflatable restraint side impact sensor and put the CPA on to connector. Next, Finally, install the inflatable restraint side impact sensor back to the door, using only hand tools for the fasteners tightening it to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Last of all, replace the door trim panel and activate the SIR system.

To Replace the Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor, you have to disable the SIR system first. When dealing with the undeployed inflatable restraint seat belt pretensioner, never hold them by the wires or connector; instead, grab it by the piston globe exposing the front end to you and others, not covering the opening of the piston globe with your hand to avoid personal injury. Then begin by taking off the front door trim panel, then freeing the 2 inflatable restraint side impact sensor fasteners, then take out the sensor from the door. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) and the yellow 2-way harness connector. Install the sensor by connecting the yellow 2-way harness connector to the sensor and install the CPA onto the connector. Next, follow by installing the sensor back to the door and fix them using just hand tools by tightening at a torque value of 10 N.m (89 lb in). Activate the sensor by following the manufacturer's guidelines for sensor activation. Lastly, install the door trim panel and configure the SIR system.

Begin by disabling the SIR system before replacing the inflatable restraint side impact sensor. Detach the front door trim panel followed by unfastening the two holding points which secure the inflatable restraint side impact sensor. Use caution while extracting the sensor from the door until you disconnect the yellow 2-way harness connector by removing its connector position assurance (CPA). Attach the inflatable restraint side impact sensor to the yellow 2-way harness connector after securing the connector position assurance into place. Position the sensor onto the door by securing it with fasteners while tightening them to 10 N.m (89 lb in) using hand tools only. Reattach the door trim panel then activate the SIR system.

The SIR sensor replacement policy requires the replacement of sensors where there is accident damage, which is any part of the vehicle that has been crushed, bent, or damaged from a collision such as when the front of the vehicle hits a tree. It is necessary to replace the sensor even if the air bags were not used, and even if the sensor seems to have no damage on it because hidden damage such as slightly bent mounting bracket or cuts in the insulation of the wire can result in wrong operation of the SIR sensing system. Therefore do not make any efforts to evaluate the sensor for visible damage; simply replace it. Also, in case a malfunctioning sensor is shown by a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) table, the sensor needs to be replaced as well.

The SIR system should be disabled before beginning the replacement of inflatable restraint front end sensor. Begin by disconnecting the electrical connector then taking out the connector position assurance (CPA). The sensor bolt needs removal before you extract the sensor from the vehicle. You must clean all dirt and grease and contaminant particles from the mounting surface before installation. The arrow on the sensor needs to face toward the vehicle's front position while the sensor installs horizontally across the radiator support before tightening the bolt to 9 N.m using 79 lb in torque settings. Plug in the electrical connector to the sensor before installing the connector position assurance. Finally, enable the SIR system.
