Upper Shroud

The first step to replace the upper Fan Shroud in a manual transmission gasoline vehicle is to unfasten the air cleaner outlet duct clamps that attach to the Throttle Body and mass flow sensor before removing the air cleaner outlet duct. Obtain the vehicle if it comes equipped with Throttle Body heater hose and inlet radiator hose retainers to remove them from the Fan Shroud. The next step involves pulling out the upper Fan Shroud after you detach its retainers along with bolts. The first step in installation involves putting the upper Fan Shroud in position before following the fastener notice to ensure safety. Place the Fan Shroud bolts and tighten them to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). After that, install the Fan Shroud retainers. The installation process requires installation of inlet radiator hose retainers along with Throttle Body heater hose retainers to the Fan Shroud when equipping them. Install the air cleaner outlet duct by tightening its clamp at the Throttle Body to 4 nm (35 inch lbs.) and the mass airflow sensor clamp to the same torque value.

The process of Fan Shroud w/m74 replacement begins by releasing the air cleaner outlet duct clamps from Throttle Body and mass airflow sensor before duct removal. The replacement process begins with removing the a/c line retainer from the Fan Shroud as well as the engine harness clip from the pcm cover and then proceeding to remove the tcm cover bolts before taking out the tcm cover. Begin by disconnecting the tcm electrical connectors through the loosening of their connector bolts and completely remove both the tcm and its cover from the rest of the system. Starting with the removal of Fan Shroud retainers and bolts allows accessing the upper Fan Shroud. Install the upper Fan Shroud properly in its position while securing Fan Shroud bolts at 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Reinstall the tcm while connecting its electrical connectors and securing the tcm electrical connector bolts to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). Fasten the tcm cover against the Fan Shroud by tightening bolts to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Replace the engine harness clip alongside the pcm cover then install the a/c line retainer to the Fan Shroud and the air cleaner outlet duct on its intended position. Swing the last phase of the maintenance by adjusting the air cleaner outlet duct clamp screws until they reach 7 nm torque where the screw torque is equivalent to 62 inch lbs.

In order to change the upper Fan Shroud (W/O M74), you should loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps from the Throttle Body and mass airflow sensor, remove the air cleaner outlet duct. When equipped, disconnect the Throttle Body heater hose retainer and the inlet radiator hose retainer from the Fan Shroud. Next, remove the Fan Shroud retainers and bolts and then pull out the upper Fan Shroud. For installation, replace the upper Fan Shroud in place while installing the Fan Shroud bolts and tighten them to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Install back the Fan Shroud retainers, and if available, the inlet radiator hose retainer and the Throttle Body heater hose retainer to Fan Shroud. Next, install the air cleaner outlet duct, tightening the clamp at the Throttle Body (7 Nm or 62 inch lbs), clamp at the mass airflow sensor (same torque specification).

The replacement process for the engine coolant fan upper shroud starts with unclamping the air cleaner outlet duct from the Throttle Body and mass airflow sensor before removing the duct. At first remove the Throttle Body heater hose retainer and the inlet radiator hose retainer which are fitted to the Fan Shroud only if equipped. The first step requires removal of the Fan Shroud retainers before unscrewing the bolts while the upper Fan Shroud comes off last. When installing the upper Fan Shroud position it properly then attach the Fan Shroud bolts before tightening them to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Install the retainers first then secure the inlet radiator hose and its Throttle Body heater retainer when equipped. Fasten the air cleaner outlet duct onto the Throttle Body with 4 nm torque and the mass airflow sensor clamp with identical torque setting.

The procedure to change the upper Fan Shroud with rpo m74 starts by disconnecting the air cleaner outlet duct from the Throttle Body and mass airflow sensor through clamp loosening. The a/c line retainer must be detached from near the Fan Shroud followed by engine harness unclipping from the powertrain control module (PCM) cover. You should remove both the transmission control module (TCM) cover bolts before taking out the tcm cover from the Fan Shroud. Unfasten the tcm electrical connector bolts before disconnecting tcm electrical connectors and finally remove tcm and its cover. Use a removal tool to disconnect both upper Fan Shroud retainers and bolts before finally taking out the upper Fan Shroud. Place the upper Fan Shroud correctly before securing its bolts at 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Reinstall the tcm after connecting its electrical connectors and attaching the cover while tightening all tcm electrical connector bolts to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). The tcm cover should be connected to the Fan Shroud afterward securing it through bolts of 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Put back the engine harness clip to the pcm cover and attach the a/c line retainer to the Fan Shroud while also installing the air cleaner outlet duct. When finished secure the air cleaner outlet duct clamp at the Throttle Body and mass airflow sensor with 4 nm (35 inch lbs.).

Lift the lower fan shroud to disengage it from the retaining clips on the radiator.

Detach the oil cooler hose clip from the lower fan shroud.

Attach the TCM cover to the fan shroud and secure it with bolts tightened to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

Lift the lower fan shroud to disengage it from the retaining clips on the radiator.

First, remove the cooling fan.

Position the lower fan shroud onto the retaining clips on the radiator and push down firmly.

First, loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps from the throttle body and the mass airflow sensor, then remove the air cleaner outlet duct.

Reinstall the HCM and the air cleaner outlet duct, tightening the air cleaner outlet duct clamp at the throttle body to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.) and the clamp at the MAF sensor to the same torque specification.

Place the upper fan shroud and install the fan shroud bolts, tightening them to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).

Remove the throttle body heater hose retainer and the inlet radiator hose retainer from the fan shroud.
