    Q:
How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve for the Auxiliary Air Conditioning Evaporator on Buick Terraza? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the A/C Expansion Valve requires the use of the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to recover the refrigerant. Start by removing both the left lower quarter trim panel together with foam wrap from the A/C Expansion Valve. Starting the process requires removal of bolt from the a/c line block fitting and then clamps from the hvac module assembly and a/c line clamp screws. Detach the a/c lines from the A/C Expansion Valve and throw out the sealing washers but seal the open a/c refrigerant lines both with caps and tape to save them from contaminants. The installer first applies capping material or tape to a/c lines before removing the A/C Expansion Valve from the Evaporator core using its securing bolts. Proper discarding of sealing washers becomes necessary and the installer must tape off or cap the Evaporator core end lines. During installation start by taking off caps or tape from Evaporator lines followed by adding new sealing washers on each Evaporator line before attaching the A/C Expansion Valve system to the Evaporator core while tightening mounting bolts to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). Complete the installation by removing caps or tape from the a/c lines then installing new sealing washers to the lines before connecting them to the A/C Expansion Valve. Utilize the a/c line block fitting retaining bolt to fasten it at 11 n.m (97 lb in) and join the a/c line clamp to the hvac module assembly while tightening the line clamp screw to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). You should finish by wrapping new foam around the A/C Expansion Valve before you produce vacuum and recharge the a/c system and execute the fittings check with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Then put back the left lower quarter trim panel.
