    Q:
How to replace the Wheel Bearing, hub, and seal on a 4WD on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the Wheel Hub bearing and seal replacement job on 4wd vehicles by lifting and holding the vehicle. Take off the tire and wheel then separate the rotor. Separate the Wheel Speed Sensor and brake hose bracket bolts from the Steering Knuckle before taking off the wheel drive shaft nut cover. Before installing the wheel drive shaft you must use a fresh nut. Take off the wheel drive shaft retaining nut with its washer from the wheel shaft assembly and disconnect it from the Wheel Hub and bearing using the axle remover (J 45859). Take out both Wheel Hub parts and their 15-series mounting bolts. Keep wheel drive shaft boots, seals, and clamps free from sharp items by covering them to stop damage that may create oil leaks and boost noise levels. Cover the wheel drive shaft boots with clean store rags before removing the Wheel Hub and bearing. Turn absolute bolt retention to remove Wheel Hub and bearing mounting bolts of type 25/35 and extract this assembly with splash shield from vehicle. Clean and inspect the oil seal for 25/35 Steering Knuckle borings before replacing it due to damage, material issues or sealing problem. We need to eliminate rust and dirt from the Steering Knuckle hole and hub and bearing parts before applying Wheel Bearing grease or its equivalent as lubrication. Place the o-ring seal into the Steering Knuckle bore of 25/35 series vehicles and bolt the Wheel Speed Sensor mounting bolt to the Wheel Hub and bearing assembly. Then fasten it at 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Load both Wheel Hub and bearing assemblies with splash shields into the vehicle in 25/35 series order followed by the same components in sequence for 15 series models. Thread in Wheel Hub bolts 15 series before moving on to bolt upgrade 25/35 series. Tighten all Wheel Hub bolts to knuckle until they reach 180 nm (133 ft. Lbs.). Place the nut and washer on the wheel drive shaft assembly between the Wheel Hub and bearing then screw it to 240 nm (177 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the Wheel Speed Sensor and brake hose mounting bracket bolt to the Steering Knuckle and tighten the brake hose clip bolt at 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Install the wheel rotor then add tire and wheel before lowering the car.

    Q:
How to service and repair the wheel bearing with rear wheel steering on Chevrolet Silverado 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To work on the Wheel Bearing with rear wheel steering you need to lift the vehicle properly then begin your repairs. Take off the wheel and tire then the brake rotor. You must first remove the dust cover from underneath the axle nut while also taking out both the pin and retainer fixed to the wheel drive shaft. Unscrew both the wheel drive shaft retaining nut and Wheel Hub and bearing retaining bolts now. Install the axle remover j 45859 between Wheel Hub and bearing then between wheel drive shaft to disconnect these components from each other before removing Wheel Hub and bearing from vehicle. Position the Wheel Hub and bearing unit onto the vehicle then fasten its retaining bolts with correct torque of 180 nm. Firms the wheel drive shaft retaining nut until it reaches 250 nm (184 ft. Lbs.) torque level then mounts the retaining components onto the wheel shaft nut. Place the dust cap first and add the brake rotor, tire, wheel before lowering the vehicle.
