  • Q: How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2001 Chevrolet Impala?
    A: To replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor, switch OFF the ignition and, drain the coolants under the level of the ECT sensor. Contact the sensor electrical connector and extract the ECT sensor very carefully. When replacing the new ECT sensor, make sure that the replacement item has the correct part number in the application. Coat the threads with sealer GM P/N 9985253 or similar and carefully mount the ECT sensor and tighten it to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Accord the ECT electrical connector with the sensor and refuel the cooling system. Be careful with the coolant sensor as the broken sensor will interfere with the fuel control system's operation and pay attention to torque specifications to prevent damage.
