2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: First, support the vehicle while it is raised before taking off the front wheel assembly along with the tire. Drain any contamination from the brake hoses along with the brake pipe fitting before putting rubber caps or plugs on the exposed end of the brake pipe fitting to stop fluid evaporation and contamination. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose using a back up wrench while capping or plugging the brake pipe fitting without bending either the brake pipe or bracket. Pull out the brake hose retaining clip that secures the hose to its bracket and then extract the hose from the mounting position. Detach the brake caliper bolt from the brake caliper then separate the brake hose from the brake caliper itself. Dispose of the two stuck copper brake hose gaskets found on the brake caliper or hose end. Install new copper brake hose gaskets on each end before attaching the hose to the brake hose bolt . Use a torque wrench to attach the brake hose to caliper bolt on the brake caliper at 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). Transfer the brake hose to its new bracket position using vehicle weight support while maintaining hose alignment with bracket notches by following the plastic paint marker on the tube. Place the retainer on top of the hose fitting located at the bracket followed by removing the rubber cap or plug covering the brake pipe fitting which remains exposed. Use a back up wrench to join the brake hose to the brake pipe fitting while avoiding pipe bracket bending and achieve proper torque of 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the wheel assembly including front tire while ensuring that the hose stays away from suspension parts during hard turns. Remove the hose when contact happens and fix any source of the issue. Complete the process by bleeding the hydraulic brake system then lowering the vehicle.
