How to replace the outer sliding door handle on 2001 GMC Savana 3500?

The process to replace the outside handle of the sliding door requires starting with removing the sliding door lower trim panel. The first step entails removing the sliding side door control assembly before you can separate the lock rods from the lock mechanism. The installation starts by removing both the nuts and the bracket which hold the outside door handle to the sliding side door followed by removing the outside handle itself. Attach the new sliding side door outside handle to its position on the door and mount the bracket as well as nuts then tighten retaining nuts to 11 N.m (97 lb in). After chaining the lock rods to the lock you should replace the sliding side door control assembly and reinstall the sliding door lower trim panel.
