2002 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and valve stem oil seal on 2002 Buick Century?
A: You should start the repair by placing the cylinder Piston at top dead center (TDC) to stop the valve from entering the chamber. Start by loosening the Spark Plug while cleaning the spark hole space with a cold engine. Insert the j 22794 Spark Plug port adapter (J 22794) into the Spark Plug port while keeping valves in position with compressed air. Put on the j 38606 valve spring compressor above the valve spring to compress it till you remove the valve locks and other components. Look for signs of damaged valve spring and replace it if found before you take off the Valve Stem Oil Seal. To install the valve components you need to set and press the Valve Stem Oil Seal and spring seat using a right tool and the valve guide boss. Squeeze the valve downward using j 38606 before setting the valve locks into place while keeping them steady with grease if necessary. After releasing the spring check that the valve locks match their seat positions. Put back the Rocker Arm, take off air pressure and tool j 22794 before adding the Spark Plug.
