2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) replacement must use new brake pressure modulator valve assembly parts since brake pressure modulator valve assembly repairs are strictly prohibited. The process starts with turning off the ignition switch followed by disengaging the connector position assurance from its connector. You must use a screwdriver to push down the lock tab while moving the sliding connector cover to its open position which allows you to disconnect the electronic brake control module (EBCM) harness connector. Record the positions of the brake pipes so you can reinstall them properly. Before swinging the brake pipes away disconnect them from the bpmv while using protective materials to cover all exposed pipe ends against contaminants. Moving on to the next step disconnect the bpmv master cylinder brake pipes while ensuring the open ends remain covered. Unscrew the upper bpmv bracket mounting nut between the upper and lower brackets while safeguarding electrical circuits and brake fluid contact reaches paint surfaces. First remove the ebcm/bpmv assembly from the vehicle before detaching the ebcm from the bpmv assembly. Position the ebcm on top of the bpmv and torque all screws to 5 nm using a 44-inch lbs. Torque wrench. Place the new upper bpmv mounting bracket onto the bpmv before fixing the assembly to the lower mounting bracket through nut tightening to 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the master cylinder brake pipes to the bpmv, tightening the fittings to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)after the master cylinder brake pipe installation the installer tightened both the caliper and Wheel Cylinder brake pipes to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First reconnect the ebcm harness connector and press down the lock tab followed by moving the sliding connector cover to its locked position before inserting the cpa. The abs automated bleed procedure follows with a diagnostic system check - abs.
