2004 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the J 29803-A ISO Flaring Kit on 2004 Buick LeSabre?
A: To change the brake pipe use J 29803-A ISO Flaring Kit (J 29803-A) and to always use double-wall steel brake pipe to avoid the brake system failure. Start with the right pipe and steel fitting nut depending on the size of the pipe as it dictates the size of the outside diameter. Cutt the pipe square and to the right length with a hacksaw, then measure the old pipe with a string on it, adding pull for each ISO flare 3.2mm zerin (.125 in). Install the fittings before flaring, chamfer the inside and outside diameters of the pipe using a de-burring tool, as well as removing any lubricant from the brake pipe and the J 29803-A, securing the J 29803-A into a vise, determining the proper collet and forming mandrel for pipe size, and inserting the mandrel into J 29803-A while keeping in place. Thread the forcing screw so that it reaches the mandrel and turn it backward by one full turn. Slide the clamping nut over the brake pipe, and insert the prepared pipe into the collet with the end to leave about 19 mm (0.750 in), and at the same time ensuring the end of the pipe contacts the mandrel face. To prevent the pipe from being pushed out, please make sure to tighten the clamping nut properly, but do not over work the forcing screw (make sure not to make an oversized flare). Tighten the forcing screw tighter until it bottoms then back off clamping nut and disassemble the collet. Measure the flare diameter which should be as between 6.92mm(0.272 in) 7.28mm(0.286 in) and used tube bender to shape the new pipe to fit the old one maintaining a clearance at least are 19mm (0.75 in), 13mm (0.50 in) or 7mm (0.25 in) to shielded line unless clipped to a component.
