2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: The first step to replace an outer Tie Rod End is to remove both the front tire together with the wheel. You need to extract the nut from the outer tie rod ball stud and after that adjust the jam nut. You should use the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to disconnect the outer tie rod ball stud from the Steering Knuckle. Remove the Tie Rod End facility from the inner tie rod shaft to check for both bending defects and damaged threads. The tapered surface of the Steering Knuckle must be cleaned prior to installing a new Tie Rod End onto the inner tie rod shaft. Follow by attaching the outer tie rod ball stud onto the Steering Knuckle then fasten it with a new prevailing torque nut which needs tightening to 45 n.m (33 lb ft). The front tire and wheel should be put back in position after the front toe adjustment before tightening the jam nut to 75 n.m (55 lb ft).
