How to replace the rear axle shaft on a 9.75 Inch Axle on 2005 GMC Sierra 1500?

The first step to replace a 9.75 inch axle rear Axle Shaft is to discharge the park brake and raise the vehicle. After tire and wheel removal the mechanic should dismantle Steering Knuckle and steering gear before proceeding with the Axle Shaft. The spring-loaded lock clip at the end of the Axle Shaft needs removal from its slot by using a small screwdriver because pushing inside towards the gears while working can help dislodge the clip from its position inside. When uninstalling the Axle Shaft provide careful handling without rotating it because gear misalignment during removal will create installation complications. Place the Axle Shaft inside the assembly and then add the spring-loaded lock clip onto the Axle Shaft end. First install the Steering Knuckle assembly and afterward install both the rear steering gear assembly and the tire and wheel assembly.
