How to replace the rear axle shaft on 8.6 and 9.5/9.5LD inch axles on 2006 GMC Sierra 1500?

The axles with 8.6, 9.5/9.5ld inch measurements require vehicle suspension elevation and support so one can remove tire wheel assemblies and Brake Calipers. First remove the rear cover together with its gasket before extracting the pinion shaft locking bolt. The pinion shaft removal process starts with disassembly of the shaft but requires partial shaft extraction when dealing with locking Differential axles. Next, rotate the case until the pinion shaft contacts the housing. Use a screwdriver or similar tool on the lock that moves it until it reaches the thrust block alignment. Push the Axle Shaft flange direction toward the Differential to remove the c-lock from the button end before extracting the Axle Shaft from the housing. Posterior Axle Shaft removal should not include rotation to prevent gear misalignment during the process. When installing the Axle Shaft into the rear axle housing users should handle it with care to prevent the seal from damage while making sure all Differential side gear splines properly mesh. Put the lock onto the button endpoint of the Axle Shaft for non-locking differentials yet keep the pinion shaft retracting partially before attaching a c-lock which should equate both ends to the thrust block at the Axle Shaft. To install the new pinion shaft locking bolt users should pull outward on the shaft flange until the lock rests properly in the Differential gear. The hole in the pinion shaft needs to match the Differential case bolt hole. Personnel should tighten the bolt to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.) when using an 8.6 inch axle and 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) for the 9.5/9.6ld inch axle. The rear cover and gasket along with brake caliper along with tire and wheel assembly must be installed next. The last step requires you to add proper fluid in the rear axle before lowering the vehicle.

Put the lock onto the button endpoint of the Axle Shaft for non-locking differentials yet keep the pinion shaft retracting partially before attaching a c-lock which should equate both ends to the thrust block at the Axle Shaft. To install the new pinion shaft locking bolt users should pull outward on the shaft flange until the lock rests properly in the Differential gear. The hole in the pinion shaft needs to match the Differential case bolt hole. Personnel should tighten the bolt to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.) when using an 8.6 inch axle and 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) for the 9.5/9.6ld inch axle. The rear cover and gasket along with brake caliper along with tire and wheel assembly must be installed next. The last step requires you to add proper fluid in the rear axle before lowering the vehicle.
