The first step to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor requires draining the cooling system. Disassemble by taking off both the intake manifold cover and air cleaner outlet duct. The ECT sensor requires removing after disconnecting the fuel injector harness electrical connector from its position. Before mounting the sensor users should tap the hole in the engine head to evacuate thread residue before cleaning and applying RTV sealant to threads if they choose to reuse the sensor. Use thread sealant GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent to seal the sensor threads before installing the ECT sensor by tightening it to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Connect the ECT sensor's fuel injector harness electrical connector before reinstalling the intake manifold cover and air cleaner outlet duct. Finally, fill the cooling system.
